Bellow, Moceanu win Southland Tennis POTW awards

ABILENE – Through 11 weeks of the spring tennis season, Abilene Christian now has had six of its student-athletes collect 10 Southland Conference Player of Week awards following Tuesday's announcement that the Wildcats swept the weekly prizes third time. This week's honorees are first-time recipient Nikolas Moceanu and two-time honoree Autumn Crossnoe Bellow.

Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.

Moceanu and Bellow were part of last weekend's 4-0 homestand, which saw the Wildcats' men's and women's teams post doubleheader sweeps of both Nicholls and New Orleans. The two victories lifted the women's team's overall and Southland Conference records to 10-8 and 6-0, while the men improved to 16-4 and 2-0 with four more home duals coming up this weekend starting with Thursday morning's dual vs. the Lamar men and concluding a women's match Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

For her part in the Wildcats' victories, Bellow won both her matches at the No. 3 position in improving to 9-10 (4-2 Southland) and at No. 2 doubles with sophomore Illeana Mocciola. Bellow and Mocciola lead the Wildcats' with 13 doubles victories.

Moceanu enjoyed a perfect weekend on the courts as well, registering a combined 3-0 record against competition from Nicholls and UNO. He is now 10-4 in dual action with a majority of his wins coming at No. 3.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
