Game Recap: Softball |

Northwestern State Takes Two From ACU Friday Evening

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ACU softball team was limited to just two runs on 12 hits Friday evening in its second Southland Conference doubleheader of the season. The Wildcats (7-14, 1-4 SLC) fell 7-2 in the opener, and the Lady Demons (12-13, 4-1 SLC) blanked ACU 8-0 in five innings in the back half of the double-dip.

The two teams will meet in game three of the series Saturday at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Northwestern State 7 – ACU 2
A four-run third inning off ACU starter Calie Burris put Northwestern State in front, and they would add a run in the fourth to lead 5-0. The Wildcats scored off rbi-singles from Samantha Bradley and Briana Tijerina in the fifth and sixth innings, but it would not be enough. The Lady Demons added another run in the home sixth to put the exclamation point on the game.

ACU left 11 runners on base with nine hits in the contest, including two-hit efforts from Tijerina and junior Linsey Tomlinson. The home team tallied 10 hits themselves, and took advantage of two Wildcat errors. Burris took the loss, falling to 4-2 on the year.

Game 2: Northwestern State 8 – ACU 0 (5 Inn.)
The final score shows a run-rule shutout, but it was a 2-0 game through four innings in the second game of the doubleheader. ACU starter Samantha Bradley (4.1 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 7 H) allowed two runs on three hits through four innings of play. Her counterpart, Mikayla Brown, was locking down the Wildcat lineup as well.

ACU was limited to just three hits in the shutout loss, and the game got away in the fifth. The Lady Demons scored six times in the inning on seven hits, including three different rbi-doubles. A single and a homer also plated runs for the home team, as the game ended in a run-rule.
