NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ACU softball team was outhit 11-2 Saturday afternoon as the Northwestern State Lady Demons ended the game in the fifth inning with a 9-0 win. A big six-run third inning proved to be the difference.
Starter
Calie Burris (4-4) lasted just two innings before being removed for Jilian Hefner. The freshman would then give way to
Samantha Bradley, who finished the game in the circle. The Wildcats (7-15, 1-5 SLC) offensively struggled against Northwestern State starter Samantha Guile, who limited ACU to just two hits, coming from Burris and
Linsey Tomlinson.
The Lady Demons hit a solo home run in the second to open the scoring, and added another in the third. That frame featured six runs, scoring on a wild pitch, a single, a sacrifice fly, and a pair of homers. An rbi-single in the fourth pushed it to 9-0, and ACU went down in order to end the day.
ACU will look to end its four-game losing streak next weekend in its conference home-openers against the Nicholls Colonels. The teams will meet for a doubleheader on Friday, March 22 beginning at 5 p.m. The series finale opens at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.
