HOUSTON, Texas - The Wildcat golf team took on both the tough 7,018-yard Cypresswood G.C. Traditions Course and the weather the last two days at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, and ACU put together a top-7 finish in its second tournament of the spring. Coach Tom Shaw's squad was forced to end play after day two due to weather in the Houston area, but tallied a 597, with a day-one score of 299 and a day-two total of 298.
Florida Gulf Coas (578, +2) won the team title, with the Houston Cougars two strokes behind (580), tying for second with North Dakota State. ACU was the top Southland Conference school in the final scores, topping New Orleans, Houston Baptist, Southeastern Louisiana, and Incarnate Word.
Stetson's Baylor Payne won the individual title with a two-day total of 141 (-3, 67-74), while Prairie View A&M's Laurence Crea, NDSU's Van Holmgren, and Matt Williams tied for second with a 142. ACU's Daniel Seibert was not only the top Wildcat, but the top individual from the Southland, tying for 13th overall with a 74 on day one and a three-stroke difference on day two (71).
Alex Clouse placed 22nd with a 147 (74-73), with Garrett Glanton tying for 30th with 11 others with a 150 (75-75). Francisco Osio's 152 (77-75) was good for 45th, matching teammates Chase Allison (77-75) and Bryce Dooley (73-79).
Seibert, Clouse, Glanton, Osio, and Allison each either shaved strokes or tied their day-one total on Tuesday, and the team looks to take some momentum with them into its next tournament.
ACU opens the March portion of the schedule in two weeks with a trip to Tampa, Fla. for the South Florida Invitational hosted by USF. The tournament takes place at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, March 11-12.
