Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Middles lead Wildcats to sweep of McNeese

ABILENE—The Wildcats began their last weekend of the regular season with their backs against the wall. Sitting at 3-11 in Southland play, ACU had to win out this weekend in order for a chance to earn the eighth seed in the conference tournament. With McNeese in Abilene on Thursday night, the Wildcats needed to avenge an early season loss in Lake Charles.

The Wildcats were able to flip the script on the Cowgirls as they earned the 3-0 sweep in dominant fashion to help their postseason hopes. ACU set the tone in the first set, earning a 25-16 win. The team hit .370 in the set with 12 kills and four service aces. The Cowgirls were able to make the second and third sets competitive, but the momentum was all in favor of the Wildcats. ACU hit over .225 and totaled six blocks over the last two sets.

Once again it was the middles who paced the offense for ACU. Kennedy Shelstead started the match going 7-of-10 with no errors in the first two sets, and finished the match with 12 kills on a .526 hitting percentage. Lorin McNeil led the team with 13 kills, hitting at a .524 clip. Shelstead also contribute three total blocks, while McNeil totaled four. The passing numbers were solid for the Wildcats and for different players totaled double-digit digs for ACU. Eighmy Dobbins led the team with 15 digs while Katelyn Mueller and Madison Rohre totaled 14 and 11, respectively.
