ABILENE -- Freshman
Zane Heusel of Edmond, Okla. and Edmond Memorial High School led Abilene Christian golf through all three rounds this week of the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational to finish with a 14th-place score of 4-under 212.
Heusel carded a 1-under 71 Monday and Tuesday, but on Wednesday he registered four birdies to finish at 2-under 70, moving up five spots on the leaderboard and tying with competitors from No. 41 Ole Miss, Marquette and Nevada. Heusel's birdies came on the third (par 3), ninth, 13th and 18th holes, the last three of which were par 5s.

Jake Bay (par 72) helped the Wildcats advance three spots in the team standings to 14th at 9-over 73. ACU started the 20-team tournament in 16th place, and fell to 17th after two completed rounds.
ACU's third round score of 2-under 286, however, helped them top clubs from New Mexico State, Louisiana, Army, Idaho, Cal Poly and Hawaii.Â
The team and individual titles went to No. 32 East Tennesse State (29-under 835) and its freshman Shiso Go, who finished five strokes ahead of the 114-man field with a 14-under 202.
Golf season resumes in mid February with the LaTour Collegiate Golf Challenge hosted by Nicholls in Matthews, La.
