Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Arteaga scores eighth goal at Corpus Friday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Junior Christina Arteaga added her eighth goal of the season to give the ACU soccer team the lead Friday night in a windy, chilly game, but the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had other ideas. The home team scored the equalizer in the first half, and added the game-winner with just five minutes to play to steal one from the Wildcats (8-3-2, 4-1-1 SLC). The loss snaps a seven-match unbeaten streak for ACU.

The Goals
- 20' | Arteaga scored after a foul in the box. Her penalty kick goal was ACU's second such of the season, and the eighth score of her 2019 campaign.
- 21 | AMCC wasted no time tying the game when Addison Urbanus scored an unassisted equalizer.
- 85' | The Islanders won the game with the third goal of the year from Kayla Gove.

The Numbers
- ACU out-shot its opponent once again, this time by a count of 18-11. The key, however, was Corpus winning the shots on goal total, 8-6.
- Rachel Johnson tallied six saves in net, but fell to 4-1-2 on the season.
- The 'Cats led 5-3 in corner kicks, and forced six Islander foul calls.
- Arteaga's five shot attempts led the way, while Shay Johnson added three. Emily Heidman and Brittney Harris tallied two apiece.
- The all-time series with AMCC is now a 3-2-2 ACU advantage after the two teams tied last season in Abilene, 0-0.

Head Coach Casey Wilson
"We didn't play the cleanest first half of soccer tonight but still had many opportunities to put balls away. However, we bounced back in the second half and played well, specifically in creating a lot of solid scoring chances. Weather is definitely an equalizer in soccer, and it changed the complexion of this game for sure. We came away healthy, though, and hope to regain some key players that were missing tonight for next week's road trip."

Up Next
- The Wildcats will have Sunday off before returning to action next Friday, Oct. 18 at Lamar University. Kickoff in Beaumont, Texas is scheduled for 7 p.m. The three-game road trip ends on Sunday, Oct. 20 at McNeese in Lake Charles, La. at 1 p.m.
