The Wildcats have won four of six meetings against the Lady Demons in their all-time series, including last year's 80-41 exorcism at Moody Coliseum. The year prior ACU swept the season series, winning 79-57 at home, and 75-74 in Natchitoches, La.
ACU won game two of its road trip Wednesday night at Houston Baptist, 72-62, in improving to 11-5 and 4-1 on the season. The victory also kept them undefeated against the Huskies at 8-0.
Four ACU starters scored in double figures led by junior
Dominique Golightly's 20 points. Sophomore
Makayla Mabry also was instrumental in the victory with a career high 14 rebounds, and junior
Lexie Ducat registered her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior
Breanna Wright, who buried all three of her 3-pointers in the turnaround third quarter, finished with 11 points and five assists, while senior
Sara Williamson tallied 15 points on 5-7 shooting.
The Wildcats trailed by a point at halftime only to start the third quarter with 10 unanswered points. They went on to take a 14-point lead, and held on throughout the fourth quarter as the Huskies were never able to get closer than six points.
The Lady Demons (6-9, 1-3 Southland) also have played the majority of their league games on the road as Saturday's contest will be their first at home in two weeks – an 82-63 win over McNeese on Jan. 5. Their three conference defeats have come against Nicholls (L, 97-86), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (L, 79-55) and Stephen F. Austin (L, 84-56).
Northwestern State was off this past Wednesday when the Wildcats were in Houston.
