ABILENE – The 2018 fall tennis season begins this weekend with the Wildcat men's team split between Midland Racquet Club and New Mexico State for respective collegiate invitationals.
ACU's Midland RC roster is composed of Josh and
Jonathan Sheehy,
Nikolas Moceanu and
Sebastian Langdon, while the New Mexico State draws feature
Joaquin Delgado,
Jackson Fine and
Cole Lawson plus newcomers
Riley Tran,
Akinori Wada and
Michael Benavides.
Senior
Josh Sheehy is the top-seeded individual in a 32-competitor field that also features teams from New Mexico, SMU, Texas A&M, UT Arlington and Utah State. He and his younger brother, Jonathan, also are seeded fourth in a doubles draw that includes several Big XII duos from Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
The Sheehy Brothers were the runner-up at last year's Midland RC Collegiate Invitational after falling to the Texas tandem of Colin Markes and Adrian Ortiz-Ruiz, 8-5. In earlier rounds they defeated duos from Texas (Mee and Goodwin), Rice and Utah State.
New Mexico State's Aggie Invitational consists of a 32-man singles draw and 16-team doubles bracket. Arizona, Mesa, New Mexico Military Institute, and Western New Mexico are among the school's sending participants.
