ABILENE – With Hurricane Florence soon expected to hit the eastern seaboard, Virginia-based Liberty University opted not to make its trip to Dallas this weekend for the SMU Doubletree Classic thus altering the Wildcats' tournament schedule.
ACU will now play only two matches on Friday, starting with the LSU Tigers at noon followed by the host Mustangs at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats also played two contests last weekend at Tulsa, following a 3-2 loss to the Golden Hurricane with a five-set win vs. Oral Roberts to snap a seven-match losing streak. Sophomore
Lorin McNeil was nominated for Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after hitting above .400 at Tulsa and delivering a career single-match high 18 kills vs. ORU, while libero
Lillian Drever made the league's list of defensive honorable mentions after averaging 5.9 digs per set.
Setter
Kendall Bosse also had a fine week in Oklahoma, averaging 10 assists per set and setting a single-match high with 55 assists vs. Tulsa.
LSU, a 2017 NCAA qualifier, is off to a 3-6 start this fall semester, having lost to nationally ranked sides from Baylor and Michigan. However, one of their wins was a three-set sweep of Southland Conference's Texas A&M-Corpus Christ.
SMU is another 20-match winner from a year ago that is off to a tough start of 2-6. The Mustangs two wins have come against Louisiana and Arkansas State, while their losses were against Lipscomb, Iowa, North Carolina State, Creighton, TCU and Montana State.
