ABILENE – Abilene Christian volleyball's tournament schedule continues this weekend with the Texas State Creeds and Crests Classic. The Wildcats play UTSA Friday at noon followed by a Saturday doubleheader vs. James Madison (10 a.m.) and the Bobcats (6:30 p.m.).
All matches will have live stats and video.
ACU last faced Texas State in 2014, falling 3-0, and has yet to battle either the Roadrunners or Dukes since its jump into D1 athletics in 2013.
The Wildcats (2-3) won their first two matches of the season last weekend at Georgia Tech vs. Georgetown and Winthrop, but fell to the host Yellow Jackets (3-0) and later dropped a 3-2 decision to Idaho State. Coming out of Atlanta, senior setter
Kendall Bosse was voted onto the Hyatt Regency All-Tournament Team and sophomores
Katelyn Mueller (offense) and
Lorin McNeil (defense) earned honorable mention status for Southland Conference Player of the Week.
Bosse averaged 9.29 assists last weekend with 12 kills, two aces, 2.41 digs per set (41) and nine blocks. Friday, she surpassed 2,000 career assists in the win vs. Georgetown and now ranks eighth all-time at ACU with 2,145.
Mueller was the team's offense leader at Georgia Tech, tallying 68.5 points, which included a pair of 19 kill matches (career high) vs. the Hoyas and Bengals plus eight service aces. Five of her aces came in the five-set defeat to Idaho State, tying an ACU D1 single-match record with Bosse (Oct. 2016 vs. Nicholls) and
Jacey Smith (Sept. 2016 vs. Incarnate Word).
McNeil, meanwhile, averaged 1.40 blocks per set and provided 21 kills.
ACU earlier this week played host to Texas Tech in front of over 2,000 fans, but lost once more to the Red Raiders, 3-0.
The Bobcats come into their home tournament at 0-3, having suffered three consecutive sweeps at the hands of (RV) Marquette, No. 16 Baylor and (RV) LSU, while the Dukes and Roadrunners are a combined 6-1. JMU beat Fairfield, Delaware State and Missouri on its home court in finishing its weekend at 3-1(L, 2-3 to Wichita State) and UTSA collected three wins at Army West Point, topping San Francisco, Quinnipiac and Black Knights over two days of competition.
