Johnson Named Southland Goalkeeper of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference release their weekly awards Tuesday, and ACU redshirt junior Rachel Johnson was named Goalkeeper of the Week by the league's sports information directors. McNeese's Havana Johnson earned the offensive award, while Central Arkansas' Kristen Ricks earned defensive honors.

Johnson registered her second shutout of the season and third of her career in a 1-0 overtime win against UTRGV Friday night at Elmer Gray Stadium. Her eight saves kept the game scoreless before Dylan Owens ended it in overtime with her first score of the year.

The Coppell native allowed her first goal of the season on Sunday at Texas Tech, but was outstanding once again with seven more saves, to bring her total to 15 for the week while facing 34 shots.

Johnson and the ACU defense have not allowed a first-half goal in 2018, after posting another quality opening 45 minutes in Lubbock.

Abilene Christian is tied for third in the Southland standings in non-conference action thusfar, equaling Lamar and Northwestern State in the win-loss column (2-2).

The Wildcats will return to action Sunday, Sept. 2 at Elmer Gray Stadium in a matchup with New Mexico State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
