SAN ANTONIO – The ACU men's and women's track and field teams will send 46 athletes to the Southland Conference Championships this weekend (Friday-Sunday).

The championships will take place at three different locations: Benson Stadium, NEISD Athletic Fields, and Trinity Stadium. Benson Stadium on the campus of UIW will host the running events, NEISD Athletic Fields will host the throwing events, while Trinity Stadium on the campus of Trinity University will host the multi's and 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Friday's multi competition is slated to start at 9 a.m. with the men's 100m dash, throwing events set to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw, and the women's 10,000m run is set for 7:30 p.m.

On the women's side, Stephen F. Austin is the defending champion after narrowly fending off Sam Houston State last year, 166-164.5. However, Sam Houston State enters this year's meet as the favorite to win the team championship.

On the men' side, Sam Houston State is the defending champion, having scored 179 points last year to edge Stephen F. Austin (169 points) for the title. The men's race this year could come down to those two teams, along with Northwestern State, McNeese and ACU.

Competing Teams: Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, McNeese, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
