HAMMOND, La. – Abilene Christian women's tennis completed its two-match Southland Conference road trip Sunday with a convincing 6-1 win at Southeastern Louisiana to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-3 within the league.
The Wildcats received consecutive doubles wins from their No. 2 and 3 pairings of
Sarah Eleanor Adams and
Nini Memishishi, and
Autumn Crossnoe and
Ileana Mocciola, and were ahead 4-3 at No. 1 (
Lucile Pothier /
Whitney Williams) when that match was suspended.
ACU went on to win five of six singles matches, four of which were in straight sets, and clinched the match right out of the gate with Williams, Mocciola and Pothier all winning at the No. 2, 6 and 1 positions, respectively.
Williams beat Madina Vorotnikova, 6-4, 6-1, for her 11th win of the spring and Mocciola followed with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Katya Cornejo. Pothier then clinched the dual behind her 6-3, 6-2 top-line triumph over Fleur Holtkamp. Pothier is 10-6 on the season, three wins behind 13-4 freshman Memishishi, who won her fifth-consecutive match after beating Dany Raygadas, 6-3, 7-5.
Crossnoe also pushed her win streak to four matches with her 6-0, 6-7 (1), 10-8 victory vs. Dalina Dahlmans.
The Wildcats are back at home this Friday and Saturday with back-to-back 11 a.m. matches vs. Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. The Lady Demons are 11-5 overall and lead the Southland Conference with a 7-0 record.
