Box Score 2 NEW ORLEANS – Abilene Christian men remained unbeaten within the Southland Conference at 3-0 and the women evened their record within the league at 3-3 following today's doubleheader sweep of the Privateers at the University Center.
ACU's women's team won 4-3 in lifting its overall record to 9-7, and the men's team – winners of five-straight matches – improved to 14-8 behind its 5-2 triumph.
Each team won the doubles point and at least half of their six singles contests. Sophomore
Sarah Eleanor Adams was one of three double winners for her team and clinched the deciding point with the Wildcats ahead, 3-2, after holding on to beat Yurina Asai at No. 4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
Adams also won her match at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, alongside freshman
Nini Memishishi, who won her fourth-consecutive singles match – and 12th overall – after beating Claudette Gilhespie, 6-4, 6-3.
Junior
Autumn Crossnoe additionally posted victories in singles and doubles. First, she and freshman Illeana Mocciola edged the duo of Brittany Johnson and Mar Gendra, 7-6 (4), and later she recorded the team's third point after topping Johnson at No. 5, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Crossnoe now has won her last three singles matches.
ACU's men's team saw two considerable individual winning streaks extended, and one notable stretch come to an end as sophomore
Jonathan Sheehy had his five-game streak snapped by Alexis Guedy at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3. This was
Jonathan Sheehy's first loss since the team's Feb. 24 match at Baylor.
Extending their winning streaks, however, were senior
Henry Adams and junior
Josh Sheehy. Adams beat Nicolas Kramer, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 for his fifth consecutive victory and the elder Sheehy improved to 14-5 overall after clubbing Federico Boscarino at the top line, 6-1, 6-2.
Josh Sheehy and Adams also were victorious in their respective doubles matches. Adams and his senior classmate
Brad Gleason won their match at No. 3, 6-3, while Sheehy and senior
