Wildcats look for series sweep vs. Islanders

The Wildcats look to complete a season sweep of the Islanders at Corpus Christi on Wednesday night ... ACU improved to 6-2 all-time vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi following their 61-59 win Jan. 24 ... Sierra Allen recorded her second double-double of the season and third of her career in that contest with 11 rebounds and 12 points ... Lexi Kirgan recorded a career high 10 rebounds in a career high 32 minutes as ACU outrebounded the Islanders, 43-35 ... Freshman Kayla Galindo tied her season high with six assists.

A victory Wednesday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will put the Wildcats into the Southland Conference Tournament, which accepts the league's best eight teams ... A win would give ACU a sweep of their season series plus a 10-5 record vs. the conference with three games left to play ... The Wildcats can earn a first-round tournament bye for finishing in the top four and they go into this week a half-game up on New Orleans (9-6) and game up on Corpus Christi (8-6) ... Central Arkansas, which visits the Wildcats Saturday, is 2.0 games ahead of ACU for third place ... The Wildcats also can get into the tournament with a Southeastern La. loss, and the Lady Lions are idle until Saturday. 

ACU suffered a devastating loss at Southeastern Louisiana Feb. 17 to split their season series ... The Wildcats led by as many as 17 points late in the first half, but a 13-0 run by the home team cut its halftime deficit to 44-40 ... The Lady Lions went on to take a 10-point lead several times during the second half and hung on for a 78-76 win.

ACU's loss at Southeastern La. was only second of the season when leading at halftime and when outrebounding the opposition (38-29) ... It also was ACU's first loss this year when hitting more free throws (19-18) and in a game decided by five points or less.

Individual highlights for the Wildcats included a team season high five blocks from senior Sierra Allen and four 3-pointers from freshmen Kayla Galindo and Josie Larson ... Larson additionally set two single-game highs with 16 points and 29 minutes ... The Wildcats loss to Southeastern La. was its first since the 1978-79 season.
