CONWAY, Ark. -- ACU gave up four multiple-run innings Saturday night as the Wildcats dropped a 16-8 decision to Central Arkansas in a Southland Cofnerence baseball contest at Bears Field.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 12-32 overall and 2-21 in conference play. ACU has now lost 15 straight road games since only road win of the season (1-15 away from home this season). The Bears, meanwhile, improve to 26-20 and 14-9 in league play.
ACU scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead, but allowed six runs in the bottom of the second to fall behind 7-4. After ACU scored once in the top of the sixth to cut the Bears' lead to 7-5, the Bears scored four more times to open up an 11-5 lead.
Three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the eighth put the game away. UCA scored in five of its eight at-bats in the game as seven ACU pitchers combined to give up 16 hits and allow nine walks.
Mark Pearson drove in a pair of runs, and
Hillin Warren drove in a pair with a two-run home run. Freshman lefthander
Nick Skeffington gave up seven runs -- only two were earned -- in 1 2/3 innings. He took the loss to fall to 1-5 on the season.
The series will wrap up Sunday at 1 p.m.
