CORPUS CHRISTI -- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored four runs in the fourth inning and five more in the sixth Thursday night to knock off ACU, 11-3, in a Southland Conference baseball contest at Chapman Field.
The loss drops ACU to 13-37 overall and 3-25 in league play, while the Islanders improve to 20-32 and 12-16. The second game of the series will be played Friday at 6 p.m. with the series finale set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
With the game tied 1-1, the Islanders pushed across four runs with all four coming in on a grand slam by Dawson Yates. Senior catcher Lukas Hermanson had two hits and three RBI for the Islanders.
ACU had seven hits by seven different players in the game, and
Derek Scott,
Luis Trevinoo and
Bradley Lewis each had RBI for the Wildcats.
Austin Lambright got the start on the mound and was tagged with the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season. He gave up three hits, four runs and nine walks in just three innings of work.
