Women's tennis shuts out Lady Lions, 7-0

ABILENE  – Abilene Christian women's tennis pushed its winning streak to six matches following Friday's 7-0 indoor court win over Southeastern Louisiana at the Teague Events Center. The shutout was the Wildcats' second straight over a Southland opponent and sixth of the spring as they improved to 13-4 overall and 5-1 vs. the league, moving them a half game ahead of Saturday's opponent New Orleans (10-3, 4-1 SLC).

The Lady Lions, meanwhile, fell to 3-9 and 0-6.

ACU won the doubles point in rapid succession as the Wildcats' three teams won by scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1. Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams won their fifth-consecutive match together in improving to 7-2 overall, however, it was their first win this season as a duo when competing at No. 1. Sarah Eleanor Adams and Erin Walker won at the No. 2 line and are now 10-3 on the spring, while the No. 3 team of Autumn Crossnoe and Jordan Henry improved to 2-0 vs. conference competition.

The Wildcats remained dominant throughout singles as their top-three players Walker, Pothier and Williams didn't allow more than two points. Pothier's victory was her ninth in a row as she remains unbeaten against Southland opposition at 6-0, and Walker lifted her record at No. 1 to 10-5 after beating Dany Raygadas, 6-0, 6-2. Williams pushed her win streak to four matches and is 14-5 overall, one win behind freshman Adams for the team lead.

Adams scored her 15th win of the spring today at the No. 4 line over Lucia Bustamante, 6-1, 6-2. Henry then blanked Yasmine Taylor at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0, and Crossnoe finished the match with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Natalie Duran. Crossnoe trailed 4-3 in the second set before making her comeback.

The Wildcats and Privateers play a doubleheader Saturday. The men take to the courts at 10 a.m., followed by the women at 11 a.m. Wind gusts reached 25-30 mph today to forced the match indoors, but tomorrow's forecast calls for sunny skies with a northwest breeze of 14mph.
