HOUSTON, Texas - Abilene Christian tennis won its fourth-consecutive match and posted its third-straight one-point victory Friday vs. 80th-ranked Dartmouth in a neutral-site match hosted by Rice.
The Wildcats improved to 12-8 with the victory and will be home Sunday to face Nicholls at 11:44 a.m., while Dartmouth - which finished with a No. 35 ranking in the nation last season - fell to 5-8.
ACU lost the doubles point to the Big Green, falling at the No. 2 and 3 positions by a combined three points, but the Wildcats did receive a 6-2 win at No.1 from the team of
Henry Adams and
Nico Agritelley who are now 8-6 on the season. ACU's No. 2 team of
Josh Sheehy and
Paul Michael Domanski actually had the set point to win the doubles point, but ended up losing to George Wall and David Horneffer,7-6.
The Wildcats then won four of six singles contests with three coming in three sets. Both Adams at No. 5 and sophomore
Sebastian Langdon at No. 6 came back from a set down to win their matches. Adams beat Wall, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 for win No. 8 this spring, while Langdon held off Eddie Grabill, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, for victory No. 5.
Langdon trailed 5-1 in the third set before making his rally that tied the team score at 3-3. At the same time,
Jonathan Sheehy was tied at 5-5 in his third set at No. 2 with Max Fliegner, and went on to win the final two points (7-6, 2-6, 7-5) to give ACU the 4-3 triumph.
Atop the lineup, sophomore
Josh Sheehy recorded the Wildcats' lone straight-set victory in beating Ciro Riccardi, 6-3, 6-4.
Josh Sheehy has won his last four singles' matches and is now tied with
Hunter Holman for the team lead in wins with 11. Jonathan's win was his seventh this season.
