ABILENE - Abilene Christian men's tennis was kept out of team point column this weekend during consecutive 7-0 losses at SMU and 12th-ranked Oklahoma.
The Wildcats (0-3) lost their doubles matches to the Mustangs (1-1) by scores of 6-4, 6-1, 6-3, and in singles two of their players went to a third set. SMU's Hunter Johnson came back from a set down to beat Jonathan Sheehy at No. 3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and at No. 6, Yates Johnson rallied to beat Cole Lawson, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Sunday at Oklahoma (1-0), the Sooners' No. 2 team of Andrew Harris and Jochen Bertsch held on to defeat Josh Sheehy and Sebastian Langdon, 7-6 (2) to win the doubles point. The match at No. 3 was left unfinished with Jonathan Sheehy and Cole Lawson leading Florin Bragusi and Adrian Oetzbach, 5-4.
ACU went on to lose all six of its singles matches in straight sets to the Sooners, who reached the NCAA Championship finals last season.
The Wildcats return to action Friday for the start of the three-day Air Force Invitational. ACU went 4-0 last spring in Colorado Springs, beating Metro State, Air Force, Northern Colorado and No. 53 UC Davis for the program's first win over a nationally ranked opponent.
