Schedule
ABILENE – Abilene Christian soccer will play conference tournament champions from Texas Tech and North Texas in addition to Oklahoma State and SMU as part of a challenging 2016 non-conference schedule.
The Wildcats begin their second year at Elmer Gray Stadium Friday, Aug. 19 with a three-match homestand vs. UTSA, UTEP (Aug. 21) and Oral Roberts (Aug. 26) and visit North Texas for the second time three seasons on Aug. 28. The Mean Green spoiled ACU's home opener last September, 3-0, en route to a final record of 19-4-1 and the Conference USA Championship.
Prairie View A&M also will visit the Key City on Sept. 2 for the Wildcats' final home non-conference match. The Panthers last season went 9-9-1, which included an upset of Jackson State in the Southwestern Conference Tournament.
From there, ACU kicks off a grueling four-match road trip at Texas Tech on Sept. 4 that includes contests at Oklahoma State (Sept. 9) and SMU (Sept. 11) in addition to the Southland Conference opener vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Sept. 17).
The Red Raiders finished fifth in the Big 12 last fall but would upset the higher seeds from Oklahoma, West Virginia in the conference tournament quarter and semifinals before edging sixth-seeded Kansas, 1-0, in the championship match.
Texas Tech finished 2015 at 18th in the RPI and lasted two rounds in the NCAA Championship. The Red Raiders defeated North Texas in the first round, 1-0, and then suffered a 3-2 loss to fourth-seeded Auburn.
The Tigers advanced to the Round of 32 after pitching a 1-0 shutout against the Southland Conference's NCAA representative from Southeastern Louisiana.
The Wildcats play host to the Lady Lions as part of their first league homestand on Sunday, Sept. 25, but must face the regular-season champions from Stephen F. Austin on the road (Oct. 21). ACU was in contention for the Southland's regular-season crown until the final week of the season when the Wildcats dropped a 2-0 home decision to the Ladyjacks. Two nights later, however, ACU rebounded with one of its best offensive performances of the season and defeated Incarnate Word, 4-0, to finish 8-8-3 overall and third in the league at 7-2-2.
The Wildcats will again finish their season with the Cardinals on Oct. 28. They also will visit Northwestern State and Central Arkansas on the weekend of Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 and Sam Houston State on Oct. 23.
Southland runner-up Houston Baptist visits ACU on Oct. 7 as part of a homestand that will additionally include Lamar (Oct. 14) and McNeese (Oct. 16). Nicholls is welcomed onto the Elmer Gray pitch Sept. 23.
