ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats won't get much of a break during the Thanksgiving Week holiday, instead hosting Charleston Southern University at 7 p.m. Tuesday before venturing north to face the Oklahoma Sooners at 2 p.m. Friday.
Both games will be heard on KTLT98.1 FM The Ticket, and Friday's game will be able to be seen on Fox Sports Oklahoma. Tuesday night's home game will be carried live on acusports.com.
The Wildcats enter the Thanksgiving week coming off a huge 65-57 road win last Thursday night at New Hampshire. ACU jumped out to a 34-17 halftime lead, pushed the lead to as many as 26 points early in the second half and then held off a furious New Hampshire rally to take the win and improve to 2-0 on the season for the second straight season and third time in head coach
Joe Golding's six seasons.
The Wildcats and Charleston Southern have never met on the basketball floor, although ACU and Charleston Southern do have a connection in that current ACU women's basketball coach
Julie Goodenough coached at CSU in her last stop before becoming ACU's head coach. Tuesday's game is also the first game of an in-season home-and-home series between the Wildcats and the Buccaneers with ACU going to Charleston, S.C., on Saturday, Dec. 3, for th return game.
ACU and Oklahoma have met twice prior to Friday's game with the Sooners holding a 2- 0series edge. The Sooners won the first meeting the teams, 83-59, on Dec. 1, 1969, and then blew out the Wildcats, 110-61, on Dec. 6, 1982, in a game that saw the late Sooner great, WaymanTisdale, pour in 51 points (fourth-best in school history) on a still-standing single-game OU record 22 field goals.
