Proctor and freshmen lead men's tennis to marathon victory at ORU

TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa native and Abilene Christian senior Jason Proctor along with freshmen Sebastian Langdon and Josh Sheehy delivered three key victories tonight for the Wildcats in their come-from-behind 4-3 win over Oral Roberts at the Philcrest Hills Tennis Club.

Each team is now 2-2 on the season.

Proctor and doubles teammate sophomore Paul Domanski earned the Wildcats' first point of the evening after hanging on to win 7-6 (10-8) at the top line over Amar Saletovic and Jan Pehnec. ACU won the first doubles match at No. 3, where Langdon and sophomore Brad Gleason edged Michael Sosnowski and Alvaro Santamaria, 6-4, but on the No. 2 court, Sheehy and sophomore Henry Adams were doubled up, 6-3, by the duo of Kenneth Boykin and Barnabas Koncz.

The drama did not end there for either team as ORU grinded its way to a 3-2 lead after winning three of the first four singles matches, two of which were decided in three sets.

Boykin tied the score at 1-1 with his 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 over Adams, but sophomore transfer Hunter Holman brought the Wildcats right back into the lead by beating Sosnowski at No. 4 by the same exact score.

At the No. 2 and 3 spots, ACU's doubles heroes Proctor and Domanski each lost in heartbreaking fashion as their opposition rallied from a set down to win in three. Proctor fell to Pehnec, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and Domanski was defeated by Koncz, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The consecutive defeats placed the Wildcats firmly on the ropes, but Sheehy - the defending Southland Conference Player of the Week - gutted out a 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 decision at No. 1 over Saletovic to tie the dual at 3-3 and then Langdon toppled Santamaria at No. 6, 7-5, 6-2 for the match-clinching point and his first singles victory of the spring.

Sheehy moved to 2-1 at the No. 1 position with his lone defeat coming in three sets to George Goldhoff of 12th-ranked Texas.

The Wildcats conclude their stay in Tulsa Saturday with a 6 p.m. dual vs. Southern Illinois - Edwardsville.
