North Texas Invitational Tournament Page ABILENE – Abilene Christian's hectic and challenging road slate continues this weekend into Denton, Texas, where the Wildcats will face teams from Boise State, Houston and North Texas as part of a four-team field at the North Texas Invitational.
Live stats will be provided for all six matches at the 600-seat North Texas Volleyball Center.
The Wildcats (0-7) and Houston (5-1) get the tournament rolling Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Mean Green (4-4) vs. Broncos (3-3) at 7 p.m.
Saturday ACU will play host North Texas at 11 a.m. and again at 4:30 p.m. vs. Boise State.
ACU is coming off another painfully close loss Tuesday night at UT-Arlington, which swept the Wildcats in three very competitive games: 25-23, 26-24, 25-21.
ACU was in position to win each set but simply couldn't close out the Mavs.
UTA (6-2) scored four of the last five points in game one after ACU took its final lead at 22-21 on a kill from freshman
Kendall Bosse. In game two the Wildcats battled back from a pair of four-point deficits late to tie the score at 24-24 only to watch UTA cash in on one of ACU's 10 service errors with a kill from Qiana Canete.
The Wildcats appeared ready to avoid the sweep with a nice charge in game three that put them ahead by three points at 15-12, but soon afterward the Mavs responded with an 8-3 run to regain the lead once more.
ACU countered a final time to tie the score at 20-20 with consecutive kills by senior outside hitter
Jennifer Loerch. That brief momentum swing, however, led to a UTA timeout, which preceded kills from Canete and Cassidy Wheeler and a block by Stacey Koch and Marisah Ingram.
The Wildcats received one last point from Loerch to make it 23-21 in favor of the Mavs, but the home team soon pulled away for good thanks to kills from Koch and Wheeler.
Loerch led her side with 13 kills and 14.5 points followed by Bosse, who rang up 11.5 points on nine kills, two aces and a block assist.
Junior
Lexi Mercier, meanwhile, put up 9.5 point on eight kills (.444 attacking percentage) and three block assists.
