ABILENE – Former ACU all-Southland Conference defensive end
Nick Richardson has been invited to the Detroit Lions' rookie free agent tryout camp this week as he tries to earn a spot on the team to go through training camp and beyond.
Richardson and former teammate
Damon Williams will be in camps this weekend with Williams having signed a rookie free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Both players will be leaving Abilene on Thursday for weekend practices. The difference in the two players is that Williams has signed a contract with the Falcons, while Richardson will be trying out to get a contract from the Lions.
Richardson, a first team all-Southland Conference selection in 2014, said he could see some time at defensive end, standup end or outside linebacker in the tryout. He said he would expect to know by Monday whether or not the Lions would sign him and take him with them to training camp in late July.
Richardson was second in the Southland in both sacks (9.0) and tackles for loss (16.5) in 2014, en route to earning first team all-conference honors. He finished his career with 32.5 sacks for his career, which is second in ACU history behind Reuben Mason (34 sacks from 1976-79).
