ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's tennis defeated the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana for the second time in as many years Friday behind a convincing 6-1 victory on the outdoor courts of the Eager Tennis Pavilion.

The Wildcats won the doubles point and claimed five of six singles matches in improving to 7-2 overall and 3-2 within the Southland Conference, snapping a short-lived two-match losing streak.

The Lions, meanwhile, fell to 8-4 overall and 3-3 against the league.

ACU started its morning match with back-to-back 8-2 doubles victories from its No. 2 and 3 teams, each of which have been stellar of late.

Freshmen Carli Knezevich and Lucile Pothier won their fourth match together at No. 3 in conference play after toppling the duo of Natalie Duran and Madina Vorotnikova. And at about the same time, sophomore Erin Walker and freshman Whitney Williams improved to 2-1 vs. league competition with their win over Margaux Kaltenbacher and Dany Raygadas.

All four of the aforementioned Wildcats would go on to win their singles matches in straight sets.

Williams won her fourth straight at the No. 5 position after coasting past Raygadas, 6-3, 6-2, but the team's longest individual winning streak still belongs to junior Nada Marjanovic, who improved to 8-0 following her 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6 vs. Vorotnikova.

Further up the lineup, junior Kaysie Hermsdorf remained the team leader in victories with nine after holding off Lucia Bustamante at No. 2, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4, while at No. 3, Walker got back over the .500 mark with a solid 6-1, 6-4 decision vs. Anna Bryukhova.

At No. 4, Pothier improved to 8-2 overall and 3-2 vs. the league with her 6-3, 6-0 win vs. Kaltenbacher.

The Wildcats return to action next Wednesday, April 1 with a 2 p.m. dual at No. 15 Texas A&M and will remain on the road for conference matches Thursday and Friday at McNeese and Nicholls.
