Wildcats sweep indoor doubleheader vs. McMurry and Southwest

ABILENE - Abilene Christian men's tennis won both its duals Saturday over McMurry and University of the Southwest by scores of 6-1 and 4-0. Rain throughout the weekend pushed both matches onto the indoor courts of the Teague Events Center.

The two victories lifted ACU's season mark to 8-13 and helped prepare the Wildcats for next month's series of Southland Conference matches against Nicholls (April 3), Lamar (April 12) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (April 16).

Senior Guilherme Gesser was out of ACU's singles lineup vs. the WarHawks, but that didn't slow down the Wildcats as they still captured five of six contests.  Freshmen Henry Adams and Paul Domanski, plus juniors Marco Bensley and Andrew Hutchinson all moved up a spot in the lineup as a result of Gesser's absence.

Adams lost in three sets to Casjen Rico at No. 3, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1, but Domanski battled back to beat Tom Weir, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 4. Bensley won his third straight match with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Rayce Roberson, while Hutchinson - making only his second start - toppled Carlos Perez, 7-5, 6-1.

Sophomore Nico Agritelley and junior Jason Proctor also won in straight sets at the top two positions over Gabriel Aboitiz, 6-0, 6-2, and Dani Perez, 6-3, 6-1, respectively.

Doubles wins for the Wildcats were secured by the No. 2 duo of Adams and Agritelley, and the No. 3 tandem of Gesser and Bensley, which won its third straight together.

ACU's match vs. the Mustangs of Southwest was a shortened affair that was stopped after the Wildcats won their third singles' contest.

Adams/Agritelley and Gesser/Bensley again won at No. 2 and 3 by scores of 6-2, 6-4, and in singles, ACU received straight-set victories at No. 1, 2 and 3 from Agritelley, Proctor and Adams.

All other matches were left unfinished.
