G3ABILENE - Abilene Christian softball plays its first Southland Conference series on the road this weekend when they visit Lamar for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's doubleheader in Beaumont will start at 2 p.m., while Sunday's first pitch is slated for noon. All three games will have live stats.
The Wildcats (4-15, 1-2 Southland) couldn't have hit much better last weekend at home against the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana, batting .354 with seven home runs, three doubles and 24 runs scored. Unfortunately, the Lions countered with 10 round-trippers of their own and left Poly Wells Field with a 2-1 series victory.
Five Wildcats finished the homestand with at least four base hits, including freshman
Brianna Barnhill, who clubbed three home runs and drove in six runners, and rookie
Peyton Hedrick, who went 4-for-9 with five runs, three RBI and a home run.
Hedrick's weekend pushed her into second place among the Southland's batting average leaders with a .483 clip. She also ranks third with 29 hits and is firmly among the league's top-10 in slugging (.717) and on-base percentage (.523), runs scored (17), stolen bases (5) and doubles (6).
Barnhill, meanwhile, moved into a tie for seventh place with five home runs - all of which have been hit over the past two weekends.
In the circle, senior
Emily Seidel remains first in the conference with 90.0 innings pitched and is second with 57 strikeouts (19 of which have been looking).
Lamar evened its season record at 10-10 this week as they followed a three-game home sweep of Houston Baptist by scores of 11-0, 4-2 and 8-3, with a five-inning, 8-0 loss at Texas State.
The Cardinals have the No. 2 offense in the Southland behind Nicholls complete with a .309 batting average and 116 runs scored, while their pitchers have a 4.30 ERA and 55 strikeouts.
