ACU begins final week of season at New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – The ACU men's basketball team will be back in action Saturday against New Orleans as it begins the last week of the 2014-15 season.

The Wildcats will take on the Privateers of the University of New Orleans at 6:15 p.m. at Lakefront Arena. After Saturday night's game, ACU will return home Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against Houston Baptist in the team's final home game of the season. The Wildcats will then close out the season next week on the road against Incarnate Word (Thursday, March 5) and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Saturday, March 7).

Saturday night's doubleheader in New Orleans will be broadcast on 98.1 FM The Ticket with the women's game starting at 4 p.m. (pre-game at 3:45 p.m.), followed by the men's game. New Orleans will also provide a live audio / video feed, as well as live stats.

The Wildcats are 9-18 overall and 3-11 in Southland Conference play, while the Privateers enter at 8-15 and 4-10, one game ahead of the Wildcats. ACU will try to snap an 11-game losing streak in Saturday night's contest.

ACU is led in scoring by senior guard Harrison Hawkins, who is averaging 13.1 points per game, while junior guard Parker Wentz is averaging 11.9 ppg. Senior guard LaDarrien Williams is averaging 10.1 ppg, while junior forward Austin Cooke is averaging 9.9 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game.

As a team the Privateers now have three players averaging double-figure point totals including Christavious Gill (12.5), Kevin Hill (11.1) and Kevin Brown (10.3). With 14 straight double-figure scoring games out of his last 15 outings, Gill has remained the team's leading scorer, averaging 12.5 points per outing, giving Gill one point for nearly every two minutes of time on the court. Gill has put together an impressive offensive run of New Orleans, scoring in double-figures in 22 out of the last 25 games for the Privateers dating back to last season.
