ABILENE – The ACU men's basketball team will be back in action Tuesday when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the penultimate home game of the 2014-15 season.
Tipoff between the Wildcats and Islanders is set for 7 p.m. at Moody Coliseum. The game can be heard locally on 98.1 FM The Ticket and can be viewed at www.acusports.com.
The Islanders enter the game at 14-12 overall and 9-5 in league play, while the Wildcats are 9-17 and 3-10. ACU has lost 10 straight games after a 3-0 start to Southland play, including a heartbreaking 55-54 loss Saturday night at Southeastern Louisiana.
The Wildcats are led in scoring by a quartet of players averaging in double figures points per game: senior guard
Harrison Hawkins (13.2 ppg), junior guard
Parker Wentz (12.1 ppg), junior forward
Austin Cooke (10.2 ppg), and senior guard
LaDarrien Williams (10.2 ppg).
Cooke recorded his second double-double of the season Saturday against Southeastern with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Wentz went for a team-high 22 points, his first 20-point game since he had 29 in ACU's 95-81 win at Northwestern State (La.) on Jan. 13. Cooke is averaging 12.0 ppg in 13 conference games.
In its loss Saturday against Incarnate Word, Corpus Christi's John Jordan scored 17 points to go along with eight assists and five rebounds, but Incarnate Word used a late push to knock off the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team 74-68 at the McDemott Center.
Jordan leads the team in scoring at 15.3 ppg, and is among league leaders in assists (5.3 apt), while Rashawn Thomas is averaging 14.4 ppg and is among league leaders in rebounds (8.7 rpg).
After Tuesday night's game, ACU has just four games left in its season: Saturday at New Orleans, home against Houston Baptist on March 3, and on the road at Incarnate Word (March 5) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 7).
