ABILENE - Free hot dogs and Dr. Pepper will be on tap for all fans in attendance at Friday's men's and women's tennis doubleheader vs. the Privateers of New Orleans. The duals are scheduled to begin at the conclusion of praise chapel at 11:44 a.m.
Friday's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 71 degrees.
Abilene Christian swept the Privateers on the road last season by matching 5-2 scores.
The Wildcat men won the doubles point behind an 8-7 decision at No. 3 before going on to win four of six singles matches led by junior returners
Jason Proctor and
Marco Bensley.
ACU's women's team convincingly swept UNO doubles and later received straight-set singles victories from sophomore
Erin Walker and junior
Nada Marjanovic in addition to
Micah Hermsdorf and
Emily Conrad.
The women are off to a 2-0 start in dual competition following back-to-back 6-1 wins against Trinity and Prairie View A&M.
Freshman
Lucile Pothier, Marjanovic and junior
Kaysie Hermsdorf all remain undefeated in singles as the team is off to an 18-11 (.621) start, while in doubles, Hermsdorf and senior
Brittney Reed lead the Wildcats with a 7-0 mark with five of those wins coming at the Indiana Winter Invitational.
ACU's men's team is 2-5 to start its dual season, and last weekend the Wildcats split a home doubleheader vs. Trinity and Tyler with each dual decided by a single point.
ACU lost the doubles point in each dual but rallied back from a 3-0 deficit against Tyler by receiving four consecutive victories from its No. 3 to 6 singles players. Bensley and freshmen
Henry Adams and
Paul Domanski won their matches in straight sets and sophomore
Nico Agritelley held off Ciro Lampasas at No. 3, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Agritelley, Domanski and Bensley were all victorious a second time in singles against Trinity at the No. 4 to 6 positions, but Adams couldn't hold on at No. 3 against Aaron Skinner, falling 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. And at No. 2, Jordan Mayer came back from a set down to top Proctor, 5-7, 7-6, 6-4.
Domanski and Agritelley each won their matches in three sets vs. Trinity. Bensley defeated Clayton Niess, 7-6, 6-3.
Agritelley and Bensley lead the Wildcats this spring with matching 4-3 singles' records and Domanski isn't far behind at 3-4.
