The Wildcats won their lone match last weekend, 3-1, at Incarnate Word to improve to 7-5 within the Southland, which is good for fourth place in the 13-team league. The win also served as ACU's first away from Moody Coliseum and gave the Wildcats their first two-match sweep of UIW since 2004.
The Cardinals entered the year on a five-match series winning streak but once again had no way of stopping senior outside hitter
Jennifer Loerch, who rang up a match-high 14 kills, plus three aces and two block assists. UIW additionally committed 20 unforced errors and was hampered by nine service errors.
Senior libero
Madison Hoover was responsible for 14 of the Wildcats' 51 digs, while on the block freshman middle
Lauren Walker recorded two solos and three assists.
Loerch, Hoover and setter
Sarah Siemens rank among the Southland's top-10 leaders following the Halloween victory at UIW. Loerch and Hoover are third in kills and digs, respectively, with per set averages of 3.46 and 4.89. Siemens is fifth in the league with 9.46 assists per set.
McNeese enters this weekend one game behind the Wildcats at 6-6 after finishing a three-match road trip last Saturday with a 3-1 win at Southeastern Louisiana. The Cowgirls are 5-2 at home and begin a season-closing, four-match homestand Thursday at 7 p.m. vs. the Wildcats.
ACU is 1-1 all time vs. McNeese. The Wildcats lost in four to the Cowgirls in 2013 and avenged that loss the following season with a 3-1 win at home.
ACU fell to 2-2 in their series vs. Nicholls after having its Senior Night spoiled by the Colonels on Oct. 26 by a score of 3-1. The Colonels are winless since their upset of the Wildcats to remain in last place at 1-11 –two games behind 12th-place Lamar. They are also winless at home through five matches this fall and will play host to UIW Thursday night before welcoming the Wildcats in for a Saturday 2 p.m. match.
