2014 Mean Green Classic Central

ABILENE - Abilene Christian volleyball will battle North Texas for the second time in as many weeks Friday as part of a four-team Mean Green Classic that also features sides from Utah Valley (WAC) and Jackson State (SWAC).

The Wildcats (0-6) and Mean Green (6-1) play Friday's second match at 7 p.m. They will then compete in back-to-back games vs. the Wolverines (0-4) and Tigers (0-8) Saturday at 1 and 4:30 p.m.

Live stats will be offered for all six matches.

North Texas upended the Wildcats, 3-0, last weekend in San Marcos during Texas State's Delta Zeta Classic, keeping ACU winless on the season. The Mean Green won by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19 and were led offensively by the trio of Hanna Forst (13 kills), Holly Milam (10K, .375) and Eboni Godfrey (10K). North Texas also dug out 68 of the Wildcats' 130 attacks, limiting them to a .115 hitting percentage.

ACU junior Jennie Loerch recorded 10 kills to lead all Wildcats vs. North Texas and also tied for second on the team with 13 digs.

In the nightcap vs. Texas State, ACU again lost 3-0 but were within striking distance throughout games one and two, losing 25-21 and 26-24. The Bobcats then carried game three most of the way, winning 25-18.

The Wildcats hit 50 points better against the Bobcats than vs. the Mean Green, but Texas State responded with a .229 hitting percentage to go along with 8.0 blocks and 58 digs (against 115 attempts).

Utah Valley and Jackson State have struggled to find the win column early this season. The Wolverines enter this weekend at 1-7, but four of those losses have come against nationally ranked opponents from #5 Washington, #10 BYU, #22 Kansas and #23 Creighton.

The Tigers are 0-8 following Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Southern. Jackson State was swept in its first six matches before finally grabbing one set last Saturday vs. the Southland Conference's McNeese State.
