ABILENE – ACU head coach Bobby Reeves announced Wednesday that he has re-hired his daughter-in-law and former assistant coach Ashley Reeves to the same position, effectively immediately.
Ashley Reeves replaces former assistant coach Debby Abbott and her husband, volunteer assistant coach Teddy Abbott, who both resigned in June.
"I'm thrilled to be able to bring Ashley back to Abilene and back to ACU," Bobby Reeves said. "She and I have a great rapport, and she'll be a great resource for our team. Her knowledge of the game and how I expect things to be done at this level will be vitally important to our program."
Ashley Reeves begins her second stint with the Wildcats after spending the last two years as a stay-at-home mom. Prior to her first stint at ACU (2011-12), she spent three seasons as the head softball coach at Harding Academy in Searcy, Ark.
At ACU, Ashley Reeves will resume her duties coaching outfielders and recruiting. She will also direct ACU softball camps during the summer and winter breaks. In her first season at ACU, she helped the team to a 28-27 record and fifth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference South Division, narrowly missing the postseason on the final day of the regular season.
In 2012, the Wildcats finished 30-18 and qualified for the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament where they went 1-2 with two losses to eventual national runner-up Emporia State (Kan.).
She coached Harding Academy into the Arkansas state high school playoffs in 2010, advancing to the quarterfinals. She also served as assistant volleyball and basketball coach, and taught speech and Bible.
She enjoyed a standout career at Texas Tech University (2004-07), where she earned all-Big 12 honors three times, and played for her future father-in-law and ACU's current head softball coach, Bobby Reeves. She graduated in Spring 2007 with a bachelor's degree in communications Studies.
In 2007, she hit .379 (66 for 174) with one home run and 15 RBI to go along with 24 stolen bases in 28 attempts. A stellar centerfielder for the Lady Raiders, she committed just three errors and had five outfield assists as a senior, when she was named Offensive Player of the Year and all-region.
As a junior, she set the Texas Tech single-season record for stolen bases with 34, the third-best total in NCAA Division I in 2006. That season, she hit .279 with a team-leading 51 hits from the leadoff spot, earning Texas Tech MVP honors. As a freshman, she was voted first team all-Big 12 after hitting .313 with 13 stolen bases.
A 2003 graduate of Lindale High School, Reeves lettered in volleyball, basketball, track and field and softball. Reeves and her husband, Tanyon, have three daughters, Kayson, Brynlee and Adalyn.
