ABILENE – ACU men's basketball coach Joe Golding announced a new addition to his coaching staff Thursday, as well as a promotion for two current staff members.
Golding announced that current assistant coach Brette Tanner has been promoted to associate head coach and assistant coach Patrice Days has been named the program's recruiting coordinator. In addition to those two announcements, Golding also hired one of his former players at Arkansas-Little Rock as an assistant coach.
Former Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Solomon Bozeman, has been hired as an assistant coach, effective immediately. Bozeman played for the Trojans – where Golding was an assistant coach from 2008-11 – from June 2008-March 2011. He began his career at the University of South Florida.
Bozeman is one of the most-decorated players in Arkansas-Little Rock basketball history. As a senior he was voted first team all-Sun Belt Conference, Sun Belt Player of the Year, Sun Belt Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player and Sun Belt Conference Student-Athlete of the Year. Since 2011, Bozeman has played professionally in the NBA Developmental League (Austin and Dallas), and has also played overseas in Macedonia, Israel, Ukraine and Qatar.
"It's always a huge plus when you're able to hire a former player," Golding said. "This guy isn't just any former player, either. He helped lead us to the NCAA Tournament and was the best player in our league his senior season. Solo has done so many things at both the collegiate and professional level that he'll be a great resource for our players."
Tanner will be in his second season on the Wildcats' bench in 2014-15, as will Days. Golding hired Tanner away from Stephen F. Austin last summer and his impact on the program was immediate and profound.
"Brette has been everything I hoped he would be when I hired him, and probably more," Golding said. "He has such a great eye for everything that's going on, and he's a tremendous help to me in every facet of this program.
"Patrice has done a terrific job in getting us in front of players that we couldn't even talk to a few years ago," Golding said. "I've been very impressed with his work ethic and what he's been able to do for our program. We're certainly lucky to have him."
