Heralded high school coach Sheena Scott joins women's soccer staff

ABILENE - Sheena Scott, who won three South Coast League titles in five seasons at Dana Hills (Calif.), recently joined the Abilene Christian soccer team as an assistant coach. She is part of a coaching staff that also includes second-year assistant Stephen Salas and third-year volunteer coach Lucas Gibbs.
Scott's responsibilities include recruiting and coaching at practice and games.
"Sheena's had an immediate impact within our program as she gives us a fresh set of eyes to provide valuable feedback on our players and system," said Casey Wilson, who is at the start of his eighth year as the Wildcats' head coach. "She has a very competitive nature and I feel the players can really identify with her. Sheena's playing and coaching background also is very impressive, and her potential recruiting network in her native southern California will be an added bonus. We're very glad she's here."
"I'm excited to be working with this program," added Scott, "and aiding in their success through this transition into (NCAA) Division I athletics."
Prior to her move east from Orange County, Calif., Scott oversaw all soccer operations at Dana Hills High School from 2008 to 2013 and transformed a three-win varsity team into the nation's fourth-ranked program in 2012. That year's Dolphins finished their season 16-1-1, won the second of three league titles, and reached the California Interscholastic Federation semifinals.
Scott's 2013 team followed with a record of 17-2-4 and advanced to the second round of the CIF-SS Division I Championships, where they lost to Rancho Cucamonga in penalty kicks.
Scott's coaching career started in 2004 with the Bakersfield Gunners U-15 Club. She then accepted her first high school coaching job in 2007 with her alma mater Aliso Niguel, mentoring its JV team. A four-time letterwinner at Aliso Niguel, Scott - known then as Sheena Jarvis - earned back-to-back Division I All-CIF honors as a junior and senior and was a four-time All-Sea View League selection.
Scott went on to play collegiately for Loyola Marymount and graduated from there with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2006.
Scott gave birth to a baby girl, Daylyn, this March. It is the first child for Scott and her husband, ACU baseball pitching coach Josh Scott.
The Wildcats went 13-5-1 overall and 7-5 against the Southland Conference in 2013 - their first year as a NCAA DI program. Next year's team is expected to feature six seniors: Sarah Schoch, Taylor Brown, Katie Stivers, Madison Brown, Tiffany Ysassi and Emily Sumrall, plus conference honorable mention defender Kelsie Roberts.
