ABILENE
- Abilene Christian's men's and women's track teams are splitting up this weekend for meets hosted by the University of Washington and Texas Tech. A majority of the Wildcats will be competing at the Red Raider Open, while Reyare Thomas, Johnathan Farquharson, Daniel Block, Baptiste Kerjean and Darian Hogg have been selected to particpate at the Husky Classic, which is one of the most highly competitive and heavily attended competitions of the entire collegiate indoor season.

These meets are the first for ACU in two weeks as its trip to New Mexico was cancelled last weekend due to icy roads throughout Texas.

The Husky Classic schedule begins Friday with the women's weight throw at 4 p.m. (PT) and concludes Saturday at 6 p.m. (PT) with the men's 4x400-meter relay.

The Red Raider Open is a one-day event scheduled for Valentine's Day and will begin at 3 p.m. (CT) with the men's and women's long jump.

In Washington, Thomas will be entered in the 60- and 200-meter dash, Block in the 800m run, and Kerjean in the weight throw. Farquharson will take part in both sprint races and the long jump, while Hogg is entered in both the long and triple jump.

In his most recent appearance at the Masked Rider Open, Farquharson recorded a pair of fifth-place showings in a very crowded field. The sophomore came in fifth out of 86 sprinters in the 200m dash with his second-fastest time of the season (21.81), and a day earlier he survived three rounds and 73 competitors to place fifth in the 55m (6.34).

Farquharson's semifinal mark of 6.31 was .01 seconds off his personal best of 6.30, which he recorded at the 2013 Masked Rider Open.

Thomas was equally dominant in the sprints as she finished second to Texas Tech's Cierra White in a field of 89 competitors in the 200m, recording a season-best time of 23.79 seconds that was .28 seconds off her varsity record (23.51) set last March at NCAAs.

White finished just .03 seconds ahead at 23.76.

In the 55m dash, Thomas twice lowered her time, going from a mark of 7.02 seconds in prelims to 6.93 in the semifinals to a runner-up and personal record mark of 6.92 seconds in the finals. And even though Thomas' finals mark was the sixth-fastest 55m time in ACU history, it was Stephanie Kalu of SMU who won the race in 6.75 seconds.

That same weekend in Lubbock, Block placing second in the 800m with a personal and Southland Conference best of 1:52.14 and Hogg came in third with a long jump distance of 23 feet-02.75 inches (7.08 meters). Hogg's jump ranks sixth in the Southland and his best triple jump distance of 47-1.5 (14.36m) ranks him fifth.

Farquharson's fastest 200m time of 21.47 is the best in the league by .03 seconds of Northwestern State's Justin Walker, however, he ranks behind both Brandon Daniels (6.78) of Southeastern Louisiana and Walker (6.78) in the 60m with a mark of 6.80.

Thomas, meanwhile, is No. 1 in the Southland's 200m performance list at 23.86 and her top 60m time is .01 seconds behind McNeese State's Jasmine Webb, 7.47 to 7.48.

As for Kerjean, he remains in fifth place in the weight throw with a top distance of 62-6 (19.05m). The best three marks in the conference belong to Southeastern Louisiana, led by junior Jonathan Kinchen's throw of 67-9 (20.65m).

Also performing incredibly well two weeks back at Texas Tech were ACU's quartet of multi-athletes: Jeremy Tatham, Luke Woods, Ramesheon Marine and Taylor Yantis. Woods - who would be named Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts – recorded a personal record 4,880 points to win the Masked Rider Open heptathlon against three competitors.

Woods' overall performances included personal records in the 55-meter dash (6.79), shot put (39-10.50), high jump (6-0), 55 hurdles (7.95) and pole vault (13-5.25). He placed first in the shot put and pole vault and second in four other events.

Tatham totaled 3,850 points competing in the first heptathlon of his collegiate career. He scored second-day points in the hurdles and 1000m, but was shut out in the pole vault as he recorded no height. During his first day of competition, the sophomore recorded a personal record long jump of 20-04.5 (6.21m).

Marine and Taylor Yantis placed sixth and seventh, respectively, with point totals of 3,122 and 3,092 in their pentathlon debuts. Marine's score was the third-highest point total in ACU history, while Yantis' was fourth. Their point totals rank only behind Jessica Withrow (3,653 pts.) and Cassie Brooks (3,407).

Marine's highest event finish was third place in the 55-meter hurdles as she clocked a top-10 program mark of 8.20 seconds. Yantis' top event showing was fourth place in the 800m (2:34.67).

Additional efforts of note included freshman Kenzie Walker recording the ninth best pole vault leap in ACU history of 11-11.75 (3.65m), and Lauren Hartwick moving up to sixth on the Wildcats' all-time performance list with a weight throw toss of 54-01.25 (16.49m).
