Live Stats vs. Sam Houston State
ABILENE - Abilene Christian volleyball remains on the road for the second straight weekend as the Wildcats once again venture southeast to face Southland rivals from Lamar and Sam Houston State.
The Wildcats take on the Cardinals Thursday at 7 p.m. at McDonald Gym and battle the Bearkats Saturday at 11 a.m. Both schools will provide live stats through their web sites. Lamar also will have a live video stream.
ACU enters the weekend at 2-15 and still in search of its first conference victory (0-4). The Wildcats came within a game of defeating Northwestern State, Central Arkansas and Incarnate Word before being swept at the hands of first-place Stephen F. Austin, 3-0.
The Cardinals also have struggled mightily this fall as just two weeks ago they broke a season-opening 12-match losing streak with a 3-2 win over Sam Houston State on their home court. Unfortunately for Lamar, it returned to the loss column last week falling on the road, 3-2, to McNeese State and 3-1 at Nicholls.
Sam Houston is 9-7 overall and started conference play 2-1 after rebounding from its loss to Lamar with back-to-back wins last weekend vs. the Colonels and Cowgirls. The Bearkats also are playing at home for the first time in over a month as they start their weekend playing host to Incarnate Word before welcoming the Wildcats. Sam Houston is 4-0 at home this fall.
The Bearkats are led on offense by senior Deveny Wells-Gibson who is averaging 4.68 kills and 0.43 service aces per set, while the defense in anchored by sophomore libero Clair Kilpatrick.
Lamar claims two of the Southland's top attackers in Cortney Moore and Autumn Taylor who are averaging 3.21 and 3.19 kills per set, respectively. The Cardinals also have the league's leading blocker this season, Chelsea Grant, who has an 1.33 per set average (eight solo and 68 assist).
With a combined 39 kills last weekend vs. the Lady Demons and Ladyjacks, ACU's
Jennifer Loerch climbed to fourth in the league with 3.87 per set. Junior setter
Sarah Siemens is 10th in assists with 7.92 per set and junior libero
Madison Hoover has the 10th most digs with 3.86.
