ABILENE - A dozen members of the Abilene Christian track and field program - primarily throwers and multi-athletes - will be competing Saturday at
Oklahoma's 14th annual J.D. Martin Invitational.
Events begins at 11 a.m. at the Mosier Indoor Facility with the women's high jump. The first running event, scheduled for 12:30 p.m., is the women's 60-meter hurdles.
The meet will be scored between all entered NCAA D-I teams.
Representing the ACU women's team in Norman will be throwers Lauren Hartwick and Shalaina Lakey, 800-meter runner Emily Hill and freshmen multi-athletes Ramesheon Marine and Taylor Yantis.
Marine and Yantis are slated to compete in the 60 hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put. Hartwick also will throw the shot put in addition to the weight throw alongside Lakey.
Sophomore multis Luke Woods and Jeremy Tatham are entered in the hurdles, jumps and shot put, while the throws will have Wildcats Baptiste Kerjean, Aaron Bynum, Jelani Rainey and DeAndre Key in the weight, and Josh Bloom in the shot put.
Both Key and Bloom are making their season debuts Saturday.
The Wildcats recorded 15 lifetime bests last weekend at Texas A&M, and chief among those was Marine's 60-meter hurdle time of 8.90 second, which is the second fastest in school history to Lexus Williams' 8.71. She also fell just shy of 5.00 meters in the long jump (16-3.75), while Yantis reached a distance of 4.71m (15-5.50) and clocked a 400-meter time of 1:00.55.
In the throws, Lakey and Hartwick finished among the top-10 in the weight throw with distances of 54-4 (16.56m) and 49-7 (15.11m). Hartwick additionally recorded a personal record of 35-3.25 (10.75) in the shot put.
Hill, meanwhile, ran a 2:24.74 in her season debut in the 800m.
Woods last week posted a pair of personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles (8.61) and long jump (21-1.50/6.44m) and ran the third leg for a 4x400m-relay that finished in 3:29.73.
Tatham ran anchor on the 4x400m and completed the sprint hurdles in 9.18.
Only the weight throwers competed at College Station and they were led by senior Baptiste Kerjean's launch of 59-7.75 (18.18m), which was good for fourth place. Rainey came in sixth at 55-11 (17.04m) and Bynum was 12th (52-4 (15.95m).
