No. 3 Women's Tennis Welcomes Trinity, Oklahoma Christian For Saturday Doubleheader

ABILENE – The nationally third-ranked Abilene Christian women's tennis team makes its home debut this Saturday with a doubleheader against Trinity University and Oklahoma Christian. Games are slated to start at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and could be played outside with the temperature expect to climb to 70 degrees.

The Wildcats begin the week with a 2-1 mark, which includes wins over Division III Centenary (9-0) and D-I Sam Houston State (6-1) as well as a 6-1 loss to Northwestern State of the Southland Conference. Senior Hannah Kelley last week went 2-0 from the No. 6 position, while senior Laura Mongin and sophomore Brittney Reed both went 2-1.

ACU's nationally ranked singles players Julia Mongin, who is No. 5, and Micah Hermsdorf, ranked 32nd, each went 1-1 at the No. 1 and 2 positions, respectively.

In doubles, six different Wildcat tandems combined for a 7-2 record led by Kaysie Hermsdorf and Laura Mongin who went 2-0.

Oklahoma Christian's lineup is led by nationally ranked No. 20 singles player Barbora Bozkova, who lost to Julia Mongin in three sets during last September's ITA/USTA Regional semifinals, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. Bozkova – the 2012 NJCAA runner-up at No. 1 singles while playing for Laredo Community College – also is nationally ranked in doubles at No. 13 with Angie Torres Quezada. This tandem reached the regional finals, where they lost to Reed and Julia Mongin by a score of 6-3, 6-3.

Trinity is ranked No. 15 among all D-III schools and went 18-8 last season en route to reaching the regional semifinals, where the Tigers lost to Pomona-Pitzer.
