ABILENE – The Abilene Christian women's tennis team will be in action one final time this fall season when it heads to The River City for this weekend's Memphis Collegiate Invitational. The event, which is free to the public, runs from Friday to Sunday at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
Joining the Wildcats and host Lady Tigers this weekend will be Tulsa, Marquette, Chattanooga, Miami University and Lipscomb. Teams will begin Friday at 9 a.m. (CT) with two rounds of doubles play indoors and will also compete in one round of singles, beginning outdoors at 1 p.m.
Tulsa has two nationally ranked singles players, No. 15 Samantha Vickers and No. 122 Isaura Enrique. Memphis, meanwhile, has the No. 37 doubles team of Stefanie Mikesz and Caroline Wegner.
ACU is coming off a solid showing two weeks ago at the ITA Texas Regional hosted by TCU. The Wildcats combined for an 8-10 singles record, which included five victories against Southland Conference opponents, while another two came against UT-San Antonio and UT-Arlington.
The Wildcats were 1-6 vs. the Big 12, but three of those defeats were vs. nationally ranked competitors Anna Mamalat (Texas A&M), Victoria Kisialeva (Baylor) and Nikki Sanders (Texas Tech).
Senior
Micah Hermsdorf fared the best of all the Wildcats at regionals by winning four matches and reaching the consolation quarterfinals where she fell to third-seeded Pippa Horn of Texas, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (10-2).
Micah leads ACU this fall with nine singles wins, followed by freshman
Erin Walker with eight, and her younger sister, Kaysie, who has seven.
