ABILENE - Junior Alyse Goldsmith and freshman Xavier King both finished second in their cross country races this morning at the Bill Libby/McMurry Invitational hosted by Nelson Park.
King finished the men's 8K race in 25:52.39, six seconds behind winner Izzy Miranda of Lubbock Christian, while Goldsmith, a 2011 NCAA qualifier, finished her 5K in 19:23.52. McMurry Cecilia Ramirez came in first at 19:15.04.
Junior Erik Forrister also finished among the top five with his fifth-place time of 26:30.36, but the ACU's next three runners placed 19th, 35th, and 44th, forcing the Wildcats to settle for a fourth-place team showing with 99 points. Lubbock Christian won the men's team title with 40 points and McMurry was second with 55.
The McMurry women, however, won their team title with 33 points followed by Texas Permian-Basin (55), Lubbock Christian (59) and ACU (95). Also competing today were teams from Our Lady of the Lake, Howard Payne and Sul Ross State.
Ayesha Rumble and Mariah Welty-Kile were ACU's next highest finishers, coming in 11th and 15th place, respectively, with times of 20:34.74 and 20:47.27.
The cross country teams compete again next Saturday at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock.
