Wildcats Receive 2011-2012 AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Friday announced that Abilene Christian was among its recipients of the 2011-12 AVCA Team Academic Award. The Wildcats were just one of three Lone Star Conference schools to receive the award, which honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
The news of the award comes as little surprise since ACU placed 64 percent of its roster on the Lone Star Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll, and claimed five of 12 spots on the league's all-academic team led by senior scholar-athlete and LSC Academic Player of the Year Jennie Hutt
A native of Papillion, Neb., Hutt later received Capital One Academic All-District and All-America distinctions from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She graduated from in May with a degree in psychology and a GPA of 3.90.
Hutt was joined on the Capital One and Lone Star Conference all-academic teams by Kalynne Allen, Neely Borger, Kelsie Edwards and Caley Johnson.
ACU's 2012 season begins Aug. 31 at St. Edward's. The Wildcats' home opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 21 vs. Tarleton State.
