Final Results
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The ACU Wildcats dug themselves a hole they could not get out of and consequently their season came to a surprising and sudden end Wednesday at the NCAA Division II South Central / Midwest Regional Tournament.
The Wildcats got off to a bad start on Monday when they shot an opening-round 304, leaving them 18-over-par and well out of the top five. ACU shot a 295 on Tuesday, but still had a chance to sneak into the top five and make the field for next week's NCAA Division II national tournament in Louisville, Ky.
However, the Wildcat couldn't make that move on Wednesday, carding a 9-oer-par 297 to finish at 32-over-par 896 for the tournament. The Wildcats finished tied for 10th in the tournament, 12 shots out of a top-five finish. Ranked No. 10 in the nation entering the tournament, the Wildcats were the highest-ranked team in the field.
Central Missouri captured the regional championship and a berth in the national tournament. The Mules were even-par for the championship, firing rounds of 286, 289 and 289 to finish at 864. Washburn was second at 12-over-par 876 (299-291-286) with Central Oklahoma in third at 13-over-par 877 (300-290-287).
Indianapolis was fourth at 16-over-par 880 (296-295-289) and St. Edward's was fifth at 20-over-par 884 (300-293-291).
Central Oklahoma standout Josh Creel won the individual regional championship by firing a three-round total of 5-under-par 211 with rounds of 72-68-71. Jared King and Cy Moritz of Central Missouri tied for second at 3-under-par 213.
Junior
Alex Carpenter was ACU's best finisher as he tied for 19th at 4-over-par 220 (77-70-73). Freshman
Corbin Renner finished tied for 36th at 9-over-par 225 (74-76-75), while sophomore
Trey Sullivan finished tied for 54th at 12-over-par 228 (81-73-74).
Kyle Dickerson finished tied for 71st at 14-over-par 230 (75-80-75), and freshman
Luke Carpenter wound up tied for 84th at 17-over-par 233 (78-76-79).
