ABILENE – Abilene Christian head coach Casey Wilson Wednesday announced the additions of Lindsey Jones and Krystal Sommers to the 2012 women's soccer roster.
Jones comes to ACU from McKinney Boyd (Texas) High School where she was a four-year varsity starter and member of its 2011 state championship team. Jones has been named first team all-district the previous two seasons and was part of the all-district freshman team in 2009.
“We are thrilled about Lindsey coming to ACU,” Wilson said. “She is a veteran soccer player who has played for both a very competitive ENCL club team for a number of years as well as a nationally ranked high school team (No. 2 ESPN RISE).
“Lindsey has the ability to play well anywhere on the field as she possesses a tremendous work rate and knowledge of the game. She will be an immediate asset to our program.”
Sommers played four years of varsity soccer at Clear Springs High School near League City, Texas and scored her team's first-ever goal in district play, which also served as the game-winner. Sommers will be the fourth member of her immediate family to attend ACU, joining her father, David, mother, Elessa, and brother, Kerry.
“Krystal will be a great addition to our program,” Wilson said. “She is a smart player who makes good decisions on the field along with being very intense and aggressive. She has an excellent soccer background playing with a great club over the years.”
The Wildcats are coming off one of the finest seasons in program history, in which they finished with an overall record of 20-2-1 and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championship. Wilson is expected to return 19 letterwinners from last year's club, including eight starters.
