Inspired Wildcats Deliver 3-1 Win At Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. - Freshman Corrie Reeder ripped a career high 18 kills in leading Abilene Christian to an emotional 3-1 victory at Cameron. The team dedicated Friday's performance to 10-year-old Abilene native Rex Fleming, who is in the midst of a two-year battle against brain cancer.

Each of the Wildcats tonight marked their wrists with either 'Rex' or 'P4X', which is shorthand for Pray For Rex.

The oldest son of ACU's director of athletics media relations Lance Fleming, Rex last week served as an honorary coach for the ACU football team in its overtime win vs. West Alabama, and this Saturday, ACU's women's basketball team will wear t-shirts that read 'Playing For Rex' prior to its season opener vs. Texas A&M-International.

With the victory, ACU volleyball improved to 11-18 overall and 7-12 within the Lone Star Conference, while Cameron, a postseason participant from a year ago dropped to 10-22 and 4-16. The Wildcats won by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-15 in completing their season sweep of the Aggies.

In addition to Reeder's personal best effort, which included four block assists, the Wildcats also received error-free play from senior Kalynne Allen, who hit .448 on 13 of 29 hitting. Freshman Jennifer Loerch had 11 kills and sophomore Sara Oxford contributed six kills with two block assists.

ACU hit .233 as a team thanks to Sarah Siemens 52 assists, while on the defensive end, Madison Hoover and Madelyn Robinett combined for 47 of the Wildcats' 83 digs.

By comparison, Cameron was charged with 30 attack errors in hitting .083 on the night. Kathryn Evans and Shannon Dulaney tied for the team lead with 13 kills, but were also responsible for 19 errors.

Before running away with sets three and four, the Wildcats first had to overcome several deficits scattered throughout game one. A kill from Dulaney put the Aggies ahead 21-18, but ACU right afterward responded with a 7-1 run to end the set. Loerch recorded three kills during this stretch, but the clincher went to Allen off the assist from Siemens.

The Wildcats also got a point from Reeder to kick start the rally plus an ace from Robinett.

Cameron led by as many as six points early in game two and while the Wildcats got within striking distance several times, they were never quite able to take the lead. Consecutive kills from Allen and Robinette narrowed the Aggie lead to 24-23, but Cameron wisely called time out and on the next play got the point it needed from Annelise Carpenter.

ACU used a 10-4 run midway through game three en route to a 25-18 win, and jumped out to a 12-5 advantage in coasting to its game four victory.

The Wildcats complete their regular season schedule Saturday at 7 p.m. at Midwestern State. ACU beat the Mustangs, 3-0, at Moody Coliseum earlier this fall.
