ABILENE - The Abilene Christian volleyball team's four-match winning streak against the Lone Star Conference came to abrupt end Friday at Stephens Arena, where the ninth-ranked Rambelles of Angelo State blanked the Wildcats, 3-0, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-21.
With the victory, Angelo State (19-3, 12-1 LSC) remained in first place by a game over Tarleton State, while the Wildcats slipped to 9-13 overall and 5-7 vs. the league. ACU visits the TexAnns Saturday at 1 p.m.
Tonight, the Wildcats recorded nine blocks - one shy of their season high - but did little on the attack in hitting just .066 (28-20-121). By comparison, ASU closely matched ACU's effort at the net with eight blocks and hit about 150 points better at .211 (43-17-123).
Wildcat freshman Jennie Loerch led all players with 11 kills - but also committed seven errors - and the Angelo State defense efficiently managed its side of the court in coming up with 67 digs. Haley Bianco had 17 digs for ASU, while her teammate Shelby Wilt had 16.
Maddie Huth paced the Rambelles' offense with 10 kills and added to that three solo blocks and four block assists. As for the Wildcats' block, senior
Kalynne Allen recorded a season-best five assists.
Sarah Siemens assisted on 23 of ACU's 28 kills.
Madison Hoover and
Caley Johnson tied for the team lead in digs with 10.
