Wildcats fall to 0-5 in LSC

ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats fell to 0-5 in Lone Star Conference play Tuesday night as their late-game charge came up short in a 70-65 loss to Incarnate Word at Moody Coliseum.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 6-7 overall and 0-5 in the LSC, while the Cardinals improve to 7-7 and 3-4.  ACU will be back in action Saturday afternoon in Kingsville against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Wildcats shot just 39 percent from the floor (24 of 61), including 2 of 11 (18 percent) from 3-point range.

ACU trailed by double digits through most of the second half before going on a 9-0 run to trim a 60-45 deficit to 60-54 with 3:30 to play.  The run ended on a Dosh Simms layup to cut the lead to as small a margin as it had been since early in the second half.

Incarnate Word seemingly tried to give the game away, rushing shots, committing fouls and turnovers and giving the Wildcats extra possessions down the stretch.  ACU cut the lead to 65-61 with 1:19 to play on a pair of Kendall Durant free throws, but that was as close as ACU would get the rest of the night.

Antonio Bell led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Durant had 13, Simms 13 and Ben Warton 10.
