Antonio Bell led six ACU players in double figures with 21 points Wednesday night as the Wildcats picked up their first Lone Star Conference win of the season with a 90-79 overtime victory over Texas A&M-Commerce at Lion Fieldhouse.
The win pushes the Wildcats to 7-8 overall and 1-6 in the LSC, while the Lions fall to 6-8 and 1-5. ACU returns home Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup against Tarleton State at Moody Coliseum.
ACU led by as many as 11 points in the second half and still led 73-68 with 1:03 to play after
Armani Williams – back with the team after an eight-game suspension – hit the first of two free throws. But the Lions scored the final five points of regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 73-73.
The first two minutes were tight as ACU held an 80-77 lead at the 3:07 mark after Desmond King buried a 3-pointer for the Lions. But ACU outscored the Lions 10-2 in the final 2:52 to pull away for its first LSC win of the season.
Bell made a layup at the 2:52 mark to make it 82-77 before
Eric Kibi – also playing his first game after an eight-game suspension – hit a layup on an assist from
Zach Williams to make it 84-77 with 2:19 to play.
Marc Little made a pair of free throws with 1:08 to play to make it 86-77, and Bell then made the second of two free throws with 49 seconds left to make it 87-77. King made a layup for Commerce with 44 seconds left to cut the ACU lead to 87-79, but
Zach Williams made two free throws with 40 seconds left and Bell made another free throw with 38 seconds left to cap the scoring.
Bell led the Wildcats with 21 points, while
Kendall Durant had 14, Armany Williams and Kibi 13 apiece, Little 11 and
Zach Williams 10.
